In the late summer months, there is a prolific stonefly hatch that occurs for weeks on end. Since the stream begins at very high elevations above 12,000 feet the upper reaches are fishable for only a few months of the year. As the stream drops in elevation, depending on snow pack and other weather related issues, the fishing areas are more accessible.
